Technical Description:

Habit: Small-Medium sized tree, up to 10 m high, rounded crown, branches grow from the trunk at an acute angle and grow up almost parallel before they curve back to the horizontal.

Shoots: The main feature of this plant is the contorted and twisted twigs, and for this reason it is used as an ornamental.

Leaves: 5-16 cm long, 1-1.5 cm wide, narrow lanceolate; margins finely serrate; bright green above, lighter or whitish green beneath, silky hairy at first, soon becoming hairless.

Catkins: Female; flowers in late September-October.

Comments: Easily distinguished by it's twisted branches.
